据笔者观察，国际上关于中国速度发展的大量评论，大都用的是中国peaceful rise（和平兴起）。可是我们的中译文，几乎都是和平崛起。这一来，就把peaceful rise在翻译成中文时强化了，好像国际专家学者的评论都在说中国和平崛起，都认同或赞赏中国的崛起。
英文rise一词，其本身并无崛起之意。崛起一词意味着突然或急剧升起，严格说来，英文应该是upsurge。
在和平发展还是和平崛起问题上，中国的专家学者本来就有不同看法。由于rise一词不确切的翻译，有两个负面影响似已产生：其一是，崛起论有了更大的虚幻市场，似乎国际同仁普遍赞同他们的观点；其二是，一些读者可能误以为真，从而忽视中国的国情和当前发展的实际状况。
其实，国际上专家学者用rise一词形容中国速度的发展时，基本上说的是中国的兴起。当他们说中国peaceful rise时，说的是中国和平兴起，一般并无中国崛起之意，我们的翻译不宜将其强化。
同样，当我们中国的某些专家学者说和平崛起而不是和平兴起时，翻译成peaceful rise也不合适，实际上是把这些人的崛起论弱化了，从而让境外读者误认为他们在谈论中国的和平兴起而予以认同。
