A tragedy of the history
Crazily, but truthfully,I finished reading the most part of the novel "A Tale of Two Cities" in just one day.Lost in the story,I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events.Soon it came to an end.To tell you my feelings,it"s infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can drive me to cry.
The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on people"s day-to-day lives. Before the revolution, the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France. The common people were extremely poor and miserable. The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people. And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last.On the other hand, the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold. There were no justice,no equality and no fairness.Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done, resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason.
Then this situation of darkness was needed to be changed. As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged,at length the Revolution came to break out. When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats, things didn"t go on as what they had been expected. The sistuation stayed the same,or even worse. The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again.People who once lived on the bottom of class took the charge now and their heart had been full of evil. The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge. And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and that"s their joy.As the novel wrote,"In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".
Equality and fairness is what people seek, which led to the French Revolution. As a consequence, neither equality nor fairness was got after the revolution. And that"s the tragedy of the history.I was heavyhearted when reading what Sydney Carton said before death and I burst into tears finally.

Miss Pross VS. Madame Defarge
From the first minute I read A Tale Of Two Cities forward,I have been in love with this book. The chapter which impressed me most is neither "The Great Escape" nor "Revolution",it"s "The Knitting Is Finished",which I"d like to call Miss Pross PK Madame Defarge.
As Mr Lorry had driven a carriage in which lay Darnay and his families to escape from Paris,Miss Pross and Jerry Cruncher, the ones who were left because the carriage couldn"t be overloaded, had to order another carriage for themselves. When Miss Pross was preparing things alone in the house,a figure appeared unexpectedly, making her cry out.It was Madame Defarge, who came here aiming for Lucie and the child.Madame Defarge knew well that this woman was a trusted friend of the family and Miss Pross knew that the other woman was the family"s enemy. Then the combat between two woman began.
Miss Pross was one of those woman who thought nothing of their own needs and who, through pure love and admiration, are ready to make themselves slaves to youth when they have lost it,to beauty which they have never had,and to bright hopes that have never shone upon their own dark lives. As Mr Lorry said,"there is nothing better in the world than the honest service of the heart".Since Miss Pross had become like a mother to Lucie and would have given her life for her,she would do everything she could to keep Madame Defarge in the house so that the carriage carrying Lucie could run farther.
Madame Defarge was a woman with a very keen eye,a strong face and a great calmness of manner. When the French Revolution broke out,it was her who led the woman and cut off the head of the governor of the prison. She had a strong, fealess and a kind of beauty that called attention to her qualities. She had grown up with a deep sense of wrong and a powerful hatred of the arisyocracy;any pity that she once may have had was now dead.To her,Darnay"s family must be destroyed, the wife and child must follow the father.
Both were determined woman in their different ways.Hatred had made the heart of the Frenchwoman hard;love now filed the Englishwoman"s with coyrage. It"s very intereing to see that each woman spoke in her own language and neither understood a word of what the other said while each knew well the other"s intention.
As a result of the combat,Madame Defarge died lying on ground and Miss Pross could hear nothing for the rest of her life. That"s another tragedy in my heart.

A TALE OF TWO CITIES

A Tale of Two Cities occupies a central place in the canon of Charles Dickens"s works. This novel of the French Revolution was originally serialized in the author"s own periodical All the Year Round.Weekly publication of chapters 1-3 of Book 1 began on April 30,1859.In an innovative move,Dickens simultaneously released installments of the novel on a monthly basis, beginning with all of Book 1 in June and concluding with the last eight chapters of Book 3 in December.Dickens took advantage of the novel"s serial publication to experiment with characterization, plot, and theme. He described the work in a letter to his friend John Forster, cited in Rudi Glancy"s A Tale of Two Cities:Dickens"s Revolutionary Novel,as "a picturesque story rising in every chapter, with characters true to nature, but whom the story should express more than they should express themselves by dialogue." The novel that emerged from his experimentation is now regarded as one of Dickens"s most popular and most innovative works.
After reading "A tale of two cities" "A tale of two cities" is one of Dickens"s most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people"s great strength.
The novel has portrayed many different people.Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually ,Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister. The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price.
As an outstanding writer,in Dickens"s work, the language skill is essential. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak."A tale of two cities" has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette"s experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "A tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.【双城记读后感】

report of “The hound of Baskervilles”
Sherlock Holmes is one world famous detective. "Four Signs", "Return Records", "Terrorist Valley" and so on are all Konan Doyle’s most famous stories.
He is good at searching and discovering. He is a very careful person as well. In the stories, he can easily give you the explanation of the things happened just now. Sherlock Holmes is such a person.
“The hound of Baskervilles” is my favourite. There is a legend that a hound used to kill people in the Baskervilles family. Holmes wanted to know more about it because Doctor James asked him for help. During the case, Charles Baskervilles died and the cause of his death may be the hound. After watching the situation in a small house for a period of time, Holmes found the murderer and he is going to murder Sir Henry Baskervilles. Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson and Henry Baskervilles killed the hound at last and the murderer who wanted to get the money of the family finally died in the marsh.
It is a very exciting story shows how clever Sherlock Holmes is. Thanks to Konan Doyle, we can read a lot of good detective stories now.
island of gold and silver(金银岛)
"island of gold and silver" is a classic masterpiece in the world, is the author of the famous British writer Steven Health (1850-1894). This book describes Jim as a juvenile pedestrian island to find a sea pirate treasure buried money, and with the arrival led to John piracy groups conducted soul-stirring fierce fighting, the story itself. Editorial delicate fluid novels, romantic story novel, readers will stimulate the imagination, allowing readers to experience the wonderful adventure with the world moving heartstrings. Novels praised poor, vagrants, orphans, on the noble, courageous and well-intentioned, who have expanded the evil, cowardly and insidious way to pay tribute to character and good people

Despite I’ve not in my childhood yet, I still prefer reading fairy-tale stories. The tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me think of some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. This summer I’ve review this kind of tale, which was published in 1940. It’s the world-famous fairy-tale by the French author, Antoine de St-Exupery, The Little Prince. As many other fairy-tales, the outline of The Little Prince is not very complex. “I”, the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has something wrong and lands in the Sahara. In this occasion, the pilot makes the acquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, the Asteroid B612. The little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because he has some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. In that case he left his own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids. On his all-alone journey, the little prince meets different kinds of people, which includes a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer. From these people he gets a conclusion that the grown-ups are very odd. Following the instruction of the geographer, he descends in the Sahara, on the earth. Unbelievable, this little book moved me a lot. I seldom think about the true meaning of love and life before. Well, now I can say, with my short sixteen-year’s life experience, it’s like the stars in the sky that lit my heart. The little prince is not only an ordinary fairy-tale for children, but also for grown-ups, and our teenagers. Nevertheless, when I read this book, I feel a little sad – about ourselves, whom are losing more and more innocence
