The book < The Great Gatsby > born in this time.Its author F.Scott Fitzgerald created it to criticize the pompous of the society,and to preach the true emotion.It"s a story said about a man named Gatsby.he lost his heart to a wealthy women named Daisy when he was young.But he lost her because he was poor and he needed to attend the war as a soldier .When he came back from the war.He did business in a illegal way,and became a rich man.To pursuit Daisy back,he did many things.He held parties,lived in the opposite house to Daisy’s house,and so on .At last,he was dead for Daisy.Nobody came to his funeral except his father and his friend Nick.And the story was said from Nick"s angle of the view.
The protagonist Gatsby undoubtedly represents the spirit of the times directly :All people want to earn more money,get a higher position through their own efforts,became a posted man,and then used everything they owned to recover all that was unable to get in the past.However,they lost themself in the money and carnival gradually.The party blinded their eyes,let they saw the extravagant stage,dazzling lights,sexy and dressed beauties,wine shaking in the glass,the musician"s life burned on the keyboard,but they could not saw each other’s heart anymore.All emotions was related to money,money became everything’s basic.5 years ago,Daisy was a innocent girl,Gatsby was a ambitious boy.Gatsby thought the obstacles of their love is money.Once he got money ,once he was rich,they could have a happy life.However,his thought just right a half.Yes,their obstacles is money,but it did not mean that once he was rich he can take back everything.Maybe Gatsby was the original boy,but Daisy was not the original girl.She lost in the money.She was afraid back to the poor life,she was afraid to break the peace and happy,even it was a illusion.She was not really happy,but she would rather hide in the illusion made by money ,did not want to risk losing glory,rich life.
The saddest scene was at the end of the story .Gatsby stood on the dock,stretched out hands across to the green light from Daisy’s house,he was surrounded by darkness,at that moment,a strong feeling of alone hit my heart.It makes me understand,the parties,the worship,the rich life never belong to Gatsby,even Daisy’s love is not belong to Gatsby.He only has the light from the other side of the river in the dark of night,that is hope.But this hope,said on Daisy"s "I cannot say that I never love TOM’,was already died.Daisy even did not attend Gatsby"s funeral,made the hope relentlessly rolled into pieces.
All that he had,all that he wanted ,after all ,is just a dream piled up with money.the only lucky is that ,until the moment he died,he didn"t wake up from the dream.So he could not face the sad and melancholy.He thought the phone call was from Daisy,he was died with because he thought Daisy wanted to escape with him at last.
The life of Gatsby is a sad story,but we must admit that he is really great.He has the courage to pursue everything what he wants.A person can live according to his own wishes,is a very great things.

In the summer of 1922,Nick moves from the U.S.Midwest to New York,where he takes a job as a bond salesman after giving up on writing.He rents a small house on Long Island in the (fictional) village of West Egg,next door to the lavish mansion of Jay Gatsby,a mysterious business magnate who holds extravagant parties.Nick drives across the bay to East Egg for dinner at the home of his cousin,Daisy Buchanan,and her husband,Tom,a college acquaintance of Nick"s.They introduce Nick to Jordan Baker,a cynical young golfer with whom Daisy wishes to couple Nick.
Jordan reveals to Nick that Tom has a mistress who lives in the "valley of ashes," an industrial dumping ground between West Egg and New York City.Not long after this revelation,Nick travels with Tom to the valley,where they stop by a garage owned by George Wilson and his wife,Myrtle,who is Tom"s lover that Jordan mentioned.Nick goes with Tom and Myrtle to an apartment that they keep for their affair,where Myrtle throws a vulgar and bizarre party with her sister Catherine,that ends with Tom breaking Myrtle"s nose as she taunts him about Daisy.
As the summer progresses,Nick receives an invitation to one of Gatsby"s parties.Upon arriving,he learns that none of the guests at the party,though there are hundreds,have ever met Gatsby himself,and they have developed multiple theories as to who he is:A German spy,a prince,even an assassin.Nick encounters Jordan,and they meet Gatsby,who is surprisingly young and rather aloof,in person.Towards the end of the party,Gatsby"s butler informs Jordan that Gatsby wishes to speak with her privately.

During the luncheon,Tom becomes increasingly suspicious of Gatsby when he sees him staring at Daisy with such passion.Gatsby begins to announce their love when Daisy stops him,and suggests they all go into town.Everyone leaves for the Plaza,Tom driving Gatsby"s car with Nick and Jordan while Gatsby and Daisy take Tom"s car.Out of gas,Tom stops at George and Myrtle"s garage,where George tells him he plans to move him and wife out west,much to Tom"s concern.
At the Plaza,Gatsby finally tells Tom that he and Daisy are together,claiming that she never loved him.Outraged,Tom begins to accuse Gatsby of bootlegging alcohol and conducting other illegal endeavors with Meyer Wolfshiem,explaining how Gatsby earned so much money.Pushed to his breaking point,Gatsby screams in rage at Tom,frightening Daisy.She asks to leave and goes with Gatsby,this time in his car.Nick realizes that it is his thirtieth birthday.
Later that night,Myrtle manages to flee from her husband,rushing out onto the street.She sees Gatsby"s yellow car approaching and runs toward it,believing the driver to be Tom after seeing him in the same car earlier.She is struck and killed.Afterwards,Tom,Nick,and Jordan stop by the garage when they see a large crowd has gathered.There,they learn of Myrtle"s death.Tom tells George,her widowed husband,that the yellow car belongs to Gatsby.
